Hello December, a week has just passed. And I couldn't think of a better way to start this month's entry than writing about our family trip to Purwokerto.
We went on our trip just last Friday by taking a flight to Jakarta from where we'd take the train from Gambir train station to my wife's hometown, Purwokerto.
Upon arrival in Jakarta we got onto the car and set for Pluit Village Mall for lunch at Bakmi Alok. Again, I had forgotten to take any photos of the noodles. 😑

After lunch, we dropped by my grandmother's house for a visit and catch up. It was good to see 婆婆, especially knowing that she's in better spirits nowadays. After spending some time with her, we had to leave for Gambir train station as we worried that the traffic could threw a spanner into our journey plans. Traffic was not good, but bearable.

We reached Gambir approximately an hour before our trip started so we took some time to get dinner and drinks in advance. Gambir was hot and packed for sure.

And when it was time to board the train, we couldn't be more relieved to seek refuge inside Bima's cooling carriage where the air-con was on full blast - FYI the train from Gambir heading towards Purwokerto at 16:30 is called Bima.

As the train departed, the cleaning staff stood by the platform with their right hand on their chest and head bowed to bid the passengers good bye.

And once the journey started, we had 5 hours to kill. It would have been bearable had I been sitting with the kids, but this time there were only 3 of us so I sat with a stranger. It was pretty boring - I hadn't brought any books with me so I just listened to music.
In the seats right in front of me was a family of 3 travelling together, a couple of young parents with their little daughter who happened to be on their way to Purwokerto as well.

Clearly you could see how much the mother loves her child, giving up her seat for that young little girl. Children below 3 years old can travel for free so long they share seats with their parents, which explains the scene pictured above. There were times that little girl would look back and our gazes met, which culminated in this portrait.

At this point in time, there was still a good 90 minutes to go before we reach Purwokerto....

Unlike in previous years, I found the train journey this year not so relaxing. For some reasons I just couldn't calm down and relax, hence the trip was slightly unbearable. Fortunately Lindsay would come to my seat from time to time, seemed like the little girl knew her old man was bored.
And finally, we reached Purwokerto at approximately 21:38.....

Surprisingly, this year was not as cooling as last year. I swear it must have been the global warming ehh.... With nothing much left to do, we just headed to my wife's house to call it a day.
Here's a closing shot for the first part of this trip's story:
