Aghast August

This hasn't been a good month. Sometime in the middle of the month, I learnt that my brother, my aunt and a daily helper at home finally became part of the statistics of COVID-19 patients in Surabaya.  I'm not too worried about them, I'm more worried about my mom.  At first I thought of getting my mom to move out to avoid staying too close to them.  Yes, there's no quarantine in dedicated facilities or hospitals... that's $💀#💢*!💣! crazy rite... Even my brother had to drive himself to the hospital to get tested again. But then again, moving out does not guarantee my mom will be any safer since she'll be exposed to more strangers.  In the end  I thought it would be much safer for her to just stay home and make sure she doesn't get near my brother and my aunt, and in case she had to go near them, to make sure she puts on all necessary protective equipment.  At least the daily helper is not coming in for the next 3 weeks.  The daily helper already has antibody in his system, which means that he had contracted the virus way earlier and somehow recovered without even noticing it.  This episode really got me worried sick here.  There's really nothing much I can do but hope for the best.  I really, really hope my mom's luck won't run out on her just yet.

On a much lighter note, we paid a visit to Marina Bay Sands earlier in the month.  It was an unusual sight to see a mostly empty The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.

We could even get a table at Black Tap during lunch time without any reservations on a Saturday afternoon.

I also had time to indulge in some reading again.  Quite easy reads actually.  I finished "The Rise of Kylo Ren" and "The Bruce Lee Way" in just one evening.  "The Ride of a Lifetime" took a bit longer as I really wanted to savour the story of Robert Iger's career.  Truly, there's plenty to be learnt from the former CEO of the Walt Disney companies.  As for "The Rise of Kylo Ren"... well...  he's no Darth Vader and there will never be another villain like Darth Vader for sure.  "The Bruce Lee Way" is a very good read too.  Basically, just keep things simple and don't over complicate while ensuring to never settle for good enough.

I had a craving for Ang Ku Kueh too, so I dropped by Ji Xiang Confectionary in Everton Park.  The shop was crowded as usual and as expected.  They are one of the few Ang Ku Kueh shops that sell the peanut filling which I really like.  I don't like the mung bean fillings which other shops generally sell.

Lindsay also craved for rainbow cake, so we dropped by The Bakery Chef in Bukit Merah Central.  While she finally satisfied her rainbow cake craving, I had a go at a pandan gula melaka cake while Linc and the missus had a... well...  dog shaped dark chocolate mousse cake...  Quite unique I must say...

I also had a chance for the big break I've been hoping for, but I really don't think it'll work out somehow...  well...  what to do rite?  😓😓

Towards the end of the month, funny things happened.  I fell down twice on two consecutive days.  The first one was while I was cycling in Robertson Quay, it was a wet day after an earlier rain.  As I tried to avoid 2 lady pedestrians in front of me, my bike somehow slipped and I fell with Lindsay.  Luckily Lindsay was in a child seat and she was not hurt at all - thank goodness for that child seat..  As for me I ended up with a sore left thigh and a numbness that ran to the knee and my foot.  It was a very weird feeling, I haven't had a fall while riding a bicycle since like, when I first learnt how to ride, and here I fell when I'm 39, with my daughter no less....  On the following day, I tripped while going down the stairs. Luckily it was not very high as I only missed the last step and I only bruised my knees and my ego (again).  Not sure what really happened....

Well.... here's a closing shot for this...  eventful month...
