During the March school term break we took a 5 day trip to Hong Kong. It was the first time the kids went to some place other than Indonesia. The weather was very nice too, at a cooling 17-21 degrees Celsius.
It was very exciting from the very beginning, we couldn't wait for the plane to take off once we were on board.

The flight took approximately 4 hours; with the on-board entertainment in our Cathay Pacific flight, the journey seemed to end quite fast.

After arriving and clearing the immigration we took a coach to Kowloon to check-in at Holiday Inn Golden Mile. The last time I went to Hong Kong was 8 years ago with my wife for our honeymoon. Things seemed different, or perhaps I just can't remember the details anymore.

Holiday Inn Golden Mile looks very old, but the location is very strategic. The hotel is very near to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, a short walk away to Avenue of The Stars (unfortunately we did not go there as it was closed), near to Tsim Sha Tsui Jenny's Bakery (which my wife really wanted to visit), and near to Ichiran Tsim Sha Tsui (just behind the hotel). The room is spacious too with 2 queen size beds to fit the 4 of us.

After we checked in and all, it was nearly 5 pm. We decided to go to Ichiran Ramen immediately in order to avoid dinner time queues. My wife had insisted to come here as it was highly recommended by all of her friends who had visited Hong Kong.

After our early dinner, I think Ichiran is too hyped up by her friends..... The soup is very nice, there's no doubt about it; silky smooth with strong taste yet not so oily and clear (no sludge, grime, etc.). But the noodle portion was rather little and the topping was meager to say the least. I still very much prefer Marutama Ramen's Zenbu Nose which I think is well priced and very generous. Well, at least we can cross out eating Ichiran Ramen from our bucket list.
As soon as we finished dinner we explored around, walked to Peking Road, Mody Road, Lock Road, Carnavon Road and such. We then took a rest at a dessert chain called Hui Lau Shan which specializes in coconut and mango desserts.

After sitting for a while Lincoln said he wanted to go to the toilet. This was when the headache started. The city area in Hong Kong and Kowloon are not children friendly. The buildings are old, extremely scarce public toilets, extremely scarce public free seating area. So when Lincoln mentioned he wanted to go to toilet, I immediately thought of McDonald's or KFC, must find one FAST!
The staffs in Hui Lau Shan pointed out a quick way to get to the nearest Mc Donald's which is through a dark alley - the sort where you'd most likely get mugged and such, but hey, it's urgent. Besides, I trusted that in a crowded tourist area such as Tsim Sha Tsui it should be quite safe.

As soon as we arrived in the McDonald's the toilet was closed for cleaning. So we immediately went out and look for KFC. Luckily there was one in a nearby street. After Lincoln finished his business, we returned to Hui Lau Shan and it was Lindsay's turn to go to the toilet. I've really had enough by then, so my wife took Lindsay to find a toilet.
After some more window shopping and real shopping, we walked back to the hotel. We checked the building where Jenny's Bakery is located to make sure that we won't be late tomorrow morning.

Before returning back to the hotel we also checked out a mall which is just across Holiday Inn, it's called K11 mall, There were some interesting art exhibitions going on, otherwise the mall looks quite normal.

And so, day 1 ended with a much needed rest.
