Hong Kong Trip 2017 - Day 2

Day 2 started at 9 in the morning.  We planned to visit Citygate Outlets (https://www.citygateoutlets.com.hk/)  at Tung Chung which is approximately 45 minutes away from Tsim Sha Tsui.  However prior to that we made a quick visit to Jenny's Bakery to buy all the cookies my wife wanted so that we could settle the packing later on that night.

We arrived at Tung Chung before 11 and looked around for a while.  The place is very near to Ngong Ping 360, unfortunately we did not make time to visit Ngong Ping 360 for this trip.

Citygate Outlets is swarmed with branded goods from 2nd floor onward.  First floor is mainly for sports and outer wear, local brands such Chocoolate and City Chain.  The basement houses a supermarket, bakery and a gadget outlet.  While some stuffs are genuinely on sale, there are also others for which you have to buy up to certain number of pieces to get special discounts.  E.g. if you buy the shoes at Dr. Kong, one pair costs HKD 299, if you buy two pairs, you get a 3rd one for free.  Same in Esprit and Chocoolate (http://www.chocoolate.hk/) where they will give you additional discounts when you buy a certain number of pieces.  This place is truly shopping heaven for bargain hunters.  That said, I didn't buy much other than some pastries from Kee Wah (https://keewah.com/en/).  I had been craving for a good Wife Pastry and there's no better place to get it other than Kee Wah.

By 4 pm we had to leave already as we were planning to visit The Peak (http://www.thepeak.com.hk/en/2_1.asp).  However, with the numerous shopping bags we were carrying, we definitely had to make a stop at the hotel first.  Fortunately Central station is not very far from Tsim Sha Tsui and so we could make a quick pit stop at the hotel.

Arriving at Central, it was drizzling a bit.  Even the skyscrapers were covered with fog.

The queuing time at The Peak was approximately 30 minutes.  What I really hate about The Peak is that the queue was not well managed; people who come in later can cut/jump the queue and walk up right up in front of those who came earlier.  If I were not with the kids, I wouldn't mind shoving some shoulders and block the way of these jumpers/cutters, but since I was with the kids, better to suck it up.  Nevertheless, luck was with us as somehow the tram stopped with the exits right in front of us.

The ride up to The Peak is very interesting because the tram has to go up a very steep slope.  Once we arrived we set foot in a tourist trap selling all sorts of local souvenirs.  Take note that you can go all the way up to the Sky Terrace, but you must purchase a ticket.  You can buy the ticket in the tram ticket counter, not sure if there are any other place selling the Sky Terrace ticket.

This trip was pretty much wasted.. I hope we had went to Sky 100 instead, but well...  Anyway, The Peak has a special meaning to both me & my wife because we went there for our honeymoon.  So we thought we wanted to take another photo there with the kids.  But seems like the Heavens had other designs.

As there was noting much to see we decided to just go back before it got more crowded.

As soon as we got down I couldn't resist to take some photos of the CBD.

After getting some photos that I was satisfied with, we returned to Tsim Sha Tsui for dinner.  Dinner at 9 pm.... well... holidays....

For dinner we visited this restaurant called "Yumcha" (http://yumchahk.com/).  I thought it would be interesting to try a different kind of Dim Sum, unfortunately my wife was not in an adventurous mood so we ordered plain stuffs such as fried noodles, fried rice, salted egg yolk French beans and steamed buns that looked really cute.

And dinner ended at fifteen minutes past 10.  We just walked back to the hotel to end the long day.
