Last week we just came back from a short family holiday in Tanjung Pinang, Bintan over a 4 day long weekend. It's been 6 years since I last visited Tanjung Pinang and a first for Lindsay. Our trip started from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal all the way in the East near Changi airport.
The last time I came to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal was about 10 years ago as after I had moved to Batam, my journeys to Tanjung Pinang were mainly from Batam's Telaga Punggur. And Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal certainly hadn't changed much. The terminal was packed to the brim with holiday makers.

After checking in, we waited for about close to an hour before we could board the ferry.

The crowd didn't stop streaming in even as we joined the queue to board the ferry at some 40 minutes before the departure time. If we didn't join in the queue so early, we would be all the way back and couldn't get our preferred seats. And when we were finally allowed to board the ferry, it took quite a while too for the crowd to clear the ticketing gates. There was even a queue at the jetty to board the ferry. Yeah... that was how crowded it was...

Fortunately, we got to ride on one of the newest ferries called Majestic Pride. This ferry is very large with comfortable seats. At least the kids could pass the next 1 hour and 45 minutes comfortably.

On board, we were entertained with a screening of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom which failed to sustain our interest as Lincoln and I decided to go to the stern and looked at the open seas.
Not long after, we finally arrived in hot and sunny Tanjung Pinang.

As soon as we disembarked I was greeted by a familiar face, one of my father's staff, "Bang Darman" who always waits in the port took our passports to clear the immigration while we waited directly outside without having to join the queue. Every time I arrived in Bintan 6 years ago, Bang Darman would be the first to greet me at the port and sent me to the awaiting car to the Resort. It was great to see him again after such a long time doing fine.
As soon as we got our passports back, we hopped on board a mini van that took us to Lumba Lumba Inn in nearby Jalan Kemboja. Seems like the pier in Sri Bintan Pura had undergone a very nice renovation...

Along the way we stopped at Majestic Ferry's local ticketing office to get our return boarding passes. While waiting, I went down the mini van and took some photos of the streets.

As far as I could see, time seems to crawl in Tanjung Pinang. A few of the shops had changed, but the streets, the surrounding and the ambiance remains very much the same as when I was last here 6 years back....
After we got our boarding passes, we made a quick stop at a nearby supermarket to get some basic necessities before finally reaching Lumba Lumba Inn where my father was waiting for us. After talking with him briefly, I went up to the open rooftop for some scenic view of Tanjung Pinang.

After that, we went with my father to Senggarang for some look and see before finally returning to Tanjung Pinang for dinner at The Manabu which is located on a small hill by the seaside.

The Manabu is almost certainly the most trending restaurant in Tanjung Pinang right now. The food selection is good with five stars plating and presentation, the alfresco dining area is cozy and romantic while the sunset view comes pretty close to breathtaking (due to the ongoing construction activity that spoiled the otherwise perfect view).

After dinner, we returned back to Lumba Lumba Inn to end the day.

It had been quite a long day and we couldn't wait to just get a good sleep.
