June Cycling Diary

I have been cycling once a week with the missus in the past 3 weeks.  So far we've been to Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by The Bay and Henderson Waves.  From Alexandra Canal Park which is right in front of our apartment, we could go all the way to East Coast Park if we'd like to.  It really is amazing how we can get to experience so many places with our bicycles.

From Alexandra Canal Park, we'll stop by Robertson Quay first after passing Zion Road.  Then it's on to Clarke Quay for more scenic views along the river.

After we pass Clarke Quay we'll arrive at the CBD overlooking Fullerton Hotel.

So 3 weeks ago I finally had my first close encounter with Botero's Fat Bird.

From across the river which is right outside the Asian Civilization Museum, the view is just as amazing, especially during sunset.  At this point, we have arrived at Empress Place and also Sir Stamford Raffles' landing site.

From Empress Place we'll continue to Esplanade, but instead of going straight to the floating platform, we would cross over the Jubilee Bridge to stop by the Merlion.

From there we'll head on to The Fullerton Bay Hotel, The Promontory at Marina Bay and to Marina Bay Promenade.

After cycling past The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands we'll head towards Gardens by The Bay, past Satay by The Bay and Marina Barrage before finally crossing over to Gardens by The Bay East.

We usually end our advance here and turn back home.  Last week Lincoln finally joined us on this route.  He did very well despite falling down once after clearing a tunnel from Clarke Quay to Empress Place.  But Lincoln soldiered on and was rewarded with a hearty McDonald's meal once we arrived home.  We should go further next time, all the way to East Coast Park.  We'll see about that.

And about 2 weeks back, the missus and I went on a more adventurous and demanding route.  We started from HortPark to Kent Ridge Park. However we only covered half of Kent Ridge Park as the inclement weather made it quite hard to advance.  There were quite a number of flight of stairs too where we had to carry our bikes while going up and down the stairs.  It really was a fun ride at Kent Ridge.  The missus and I came here 12 years ago for our pre-wedding photo shoot on the boardwalk.  So it was a come back of sorts.

So we returned back to Alexandra Arch bridge from where we continued to the Southern Ridges.  Now this is really a very fun place, but cycling is not really recommended here.  In fact we saw signs that encourage riders to dismount and push their bikes so as to avoid crashing into pedestrians along the walkway.

On this route we encountered some wild monkeys too - that was very interesting.

We also passed by Telok Blangah Hill Park, but did not have time to enjoy the top view as we would then have to carry our bicycles again while climbing up stairs.  Not that we weren't up to it, but it was raining and rather slippery.  So... better to be safe.  Anyway, we went straight to Henderson Waves where we stopped to enjoy the amazing view from the bridge.

After we were done at Henderson Waves, we went to Mount Faber Park from where we descended to Telok Blangah Road and made our way home from Lower Delta Road.  It was just a 15 km route, but it was super exhausting due to the hilly terrain. But it really was a cycling trip to remember.  When we descended down Mount Faber Road, it was really amazing and I don't think we can ever do that again once the cars return to the roads for good.
