So last Wednesday we made an impromptu visit to Haji Lane. We just had our brunch at Zam Zam Restaurant (the usual fix of murtabak, briyani, beehoon goreng and mie goreng) and since there was still plenty of time, we decided to walk over to Kampong Glam and make our way to Haji Lane.

In Kampong Glam, the main draw will be the beautiful arches at the entrance as you enter Muscat Street and the Sultan Mosque itself which has stood the test of time, having been around since the mid 1820s.
Muscat Street which stretches along the main path outside Sultan Mosque is littered with Middle Eastern eateries, souvenir shops, art galleries and fragrance shops. I think you can't possibly get more authentic Middle Eastern food than here in Kampong Glam's Muscat Street.

Along the way to Haji Lane we stopped by %Arabica at 56 Arab Street and thought of trying their coffee. Unfortunately the crowd and the earlier brunch discouraged our attempt to get some caffeine. For the life of me, I can't understand why this cafe looks more like a tourist stop than a real cafe. We shall see next time whether %Arabica lives up to the hype.

From %Arabica we crossed the road and arrived at the oh, so colourful Haji Lane. You can't miss the entrance to the lane from Arab Street where a mural of a fair maiden welcomes you.

As we set foot in the heart of Haji Lane, our attention was immediately drawn to the colourful shades as we looked towards Beach Road. Many tourists were there as well either taking selfies or snapshots of the lane.

Even the buildings sandwiching the lane were as psychedelically painted as the shades, making for an unmistakable kaleidoscopic experience along the lane.

And how can we possibly miss a prominent mural of an elderly Indian gentleman that adorns The Singapura Club's outer wall?

From there we walked towards North Bridge Road to explore the trendy and hippy little shops selling fascinating trinkets and playthings.

I made a stop at the Fairtex shop to get a pair of focus mitts. Although the visit was impromptu, I had all along wanted to visit the Fairtex shop so it was a fruitful trip.
Well, here's a closing shot for this entry:
