As we finished our exploration of Tokyo, it was time to make our move to Hokkaido, the most important part of our itinerary. From Disney Ambassador Hotel, we took the airport limousine to Haneda.

It was a short 1 hour flight like from Jakarta to Surabaya, however the flight was rather bumpy due to turbulence. The pilot assured us that the turbulence did not endanger the flight at all, although we were advised to keep our seat belts on at all time.
On arrival in Hakodate, we were greeted with a little snowfall which couldn't make the start of our Hokkaido trip any better. It was the first time we experienced snow in our lives.
We then took a taxi to Fav Hakodate, which is located near the morning market. The hotel's location is very convenient too, about 5 minutes walk to the JR station. The room was reasonably big for the 4 of us and made for a very comfortable rest.

After we checked in, we went to the JR station to collect our JR passes and made reservation for our next stop at Otaru. We then had an early dinner at Ramen Onjiki, which we didn't expect to be so good! I had a bowl of curry ramen which I think tasted excellent, not too salty with strong curry flavour and aroma. Everyone really had a good first meal in Hokkaido, courtesy of Ramen Onjiki.

After dinner, we went to Hakodate Mountain Ropeway by taxi. As we waited for the cable car to arrive, it started snowing again, heavier than when we first arrived in the afternoon. It really was a magical moment, especially for me who's only seen snow for the first time in 43 years.
As soon as we arrived at the top of the mountain, we went further up to the rooftop to get a peek of Hakodate's world famous million dollar view. And the view certainly didn't disappoint.

As the snowfall became heavier, we went back inside to shop for some souvenirs and confectioneries before returning to the hotel. I then left for the laundry while Lincoln and the missus went to Book Off (yet again). And by the time we were all back, it was time to rest.
We started our 2nd day in Hakodate with a trip to the morning market for a light breakfast before making our way to Goryokaku tower. I managed to purchase Kitaca cards for all of us, and we boarded the tram and made our way to Goryokaku tower.
As soon as we arrived we were mesmerized by the snow blanketing the area surrounding the fort. The view from top was very good too, giving us a bird's eye view of the city.

In the tower there were exhibitions which outlined the history of the city and the fort which I really enjoyed looking at.

After we were done at Goryokaku, we had a late lunch at Lucky Pierrot burger across the tower. It is a local burger chain found only in Hakodate. The price is cheap and the food very good, no wonder lines form wherever there's a Lucky Pierrot outlet!

As soon as we finished lunch, we left for our next destination, the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse. As we walked towards the tram stop, we were caught in a snowfall again. We had to take a brief stop at a nearby 7-eleven to warm up.
And when we finally made it to the tram stop, we rode non-stop and reached the warehouse which is actually quite near the ropeway.

Kanemori warehouse is a very charming place with many tourist attractions nearby. We looked at the many little shops in the warehouse while waiting for sunset and a fireworks show.

And when night came, we were caught in another snow storm which may sound scary, but actually made the place look even more magical.

After the fireworks show, we walked back to the hotel for a quick pit stop before continuing to the JR Station for a Yakiniku dinner at Gengis Khan. The dinner was very good.

And after dinner, I still made time to go for laundry as I thought that we won't have that convenience at our next stop in Otaru. So I had to make sure that we will have enough clean apparels for our next stop at Otaru.

On the following morning, it was time to leave already. It was such a short stop in Hakodate and yet so unforgettable. I really love Hakodate and I plan to come back again some day for sure.
Here's a closing shot for this entry of our Japan 2024 trip series:
