Scrappy September

On a personal basis, September has been very kind to me.  However, I'm extremely disappointed at the Multi Ministry Task Force's unforgivable blunder which has lead to a sudden increase of COVID-19 case numbers in Singapore.  Hence... "scrappy".  I'm extremely flustered that despite their simulation showing that cases could hit 2000 a day, the task force did not put any restrictions to slow the spread when the number of daily cases was still quite low.  Instead, they tried to ramp up handling capabilities.  Did they not learn from Israel's experience?  We will go endemic, yes, that's an eventuality.  But going endemic right now, is still too early.  What about the over 60s with co-morbidities who have yet to get their booster shots?  What about children under 12 who cannot be vaccinated yet?  Not only the over 60s, even normal adults need booster shots too, to avoid vaccine breakthrough infections!  The task force has made a wrong judgement on the timing to open up and we are now paying a heavy price with restricted movements, daily reported deaths, messed up school exam schedules and businesses that suffer from spontaneous restrictions or even closures when infections hit one of their own.  At the same time, I can't help but worry for the kids who have yet to get their vaccines.  While so far there has been no reported deaths of children under 12 from COVID-19 in Singapore, I prefer to minimise the kids' risks of contracting COVID-19 as much as possible.  As I'm writing this entry now, the number of COVID-19 cases for children under 12 has hit 1266 just in September alone while in the past 7 days the number of cases in this age group is 677.

Aggrieved August

August started in the worst way possible - 外公 departed in the early hours of 1st August.  I still can't accept that he's the first family member to succumb to Covid-19.  It pains me so much that I can't bid him a proper farewell and how there are still so many things I wish to do with him.  Mom is taking it quite hard, but I believe she will pull through somehow.  Sometime in mid-September next month, mom will return to Palembang again for the 49th day prayers.  I've been having mixed feelings and emotions of sorts throughout this month.

Dear 外公

Dear 外公, I can't believe its your turn to go now.  I thought we could meet again in Singapore once this whole Covid drama is over, but it seems like things just never go the way we want them to be.  I still have so many things to do with you, so many things to give you and all..  We both love Seiko mechanical watches rite?  How I wish I could talk with you more about them and get you another one.  Of all my grandparents I spend the least time with you and 外婆, especially since her early passing.  We rarely had the chance to talk a lot.  Right now I know that 妈妈 must be having a hard time since she's the one who's been taking care of things since your passing.  I hope you know how much she cares for you deeply.

Just July - Again

I've used "Just" last year.  Somehow I've ran out of vocabularies by now.  My bread baking spree continued into July with a renewed frenzy.  In all I baked 6 loaves over a span of 3 weeks.

Jagged June

I think I might have used "Jagged" before, I'm not sure.   June started rather plainly I'd say.  Even though the kids were on their school holiday, we were all pretty much grounded as Phase 2 Heightened Alert was in effect.  We were quite worried too due to the growing Covid-19 cluster in Bukit Merah with cases that sprang out in Redhill Market which we frequently visits along with more in Lengkok Bahru which is just opposite our house across the MRT station and Henderson which is just a few blocks away.
